2011 Black and White Photographer of the Year
by Binh Trinh
One of the benefits of being a professional wedding photographer is the inherent joy of being creative and finding the space and time to work on personal projects to create art for artistic sake.
Inspired by the work of Spencer Turnick, I wanted to put on my artistic spin on mass nudes, and have made several model calls around the Manawatu and Wellington regions.
At the 2011 Black and White Photographer of the Year competition, an annual competition held by the Black and White Magazine, one of the world biggest and most prestigious photography magazine that is dedicated to the art of black and white photography, I submitted some of my black and white fine art nudes images. With over 3500 images submitted from around the world, my set of three images were chosen as the over winner and became the first and only New Zealand photographer to win this prestigious competition. It was also amazing to have the images exhibited at the Print Space Gallery in London for several weeks. Hopefully this will help me to gain more reputation with my mass nudes overseas. It is certainly a priviledge to be recognised among the world best for black and white photography, something that I really love.
